Single or Double breast pumps
For those who have used breast pumps, would you recommend spending more to get a dual one, or do the single ones do well enough? The only difference I know of is that with the dual you pump them both at the same time, and the single it's one at a time so it takes longer. Is the amount of time it takes to pump with a single one a big factor, or does it really matter?

Personally, I'd only do double. I've tried three different single ones and they were just way too much work and took way too long. If you're planning to give breastfeeding a really serious shot, I'd invest in a dual pump. Part of the reason why I didn't stick with it very long is because I felt chained to the pump b/c it took forever to get a bottle's worth. So, if I wasn't actually nursing, I was chained to the pump trying to get some extra milk for bottles. It just drove me crazy
Its personal preference and I know it's doable with a single one, but I'd invest in the double if you can. Just my opinion on it.

From what I've heard so far, it seems almost pointless to get a single. I have a coupon for 25% off a Medela pump, so I'm just trying to convince my mom why I need the "so fancy and expensive" one. I'm wanting the Medela Pump In Style Advanced, because of the dual pump and also I've been told that the letdown feature on it makes it worth it to spend more on it versus the original.

I like the Avent Isis. It has worked better than my double Medela pump in style ever did!

I've had a single manual and now I have a double electric (it is a Medela). I wasn't crazy about the single one. I even said I would never pump again. Then when I was pg with Johnny John's chief gave me her double electric pump (she never used it and they aren't planning on anymore kids). I fell in love with it and will use it again this time. It was so easy to use. I was able to only pump one side if I wanted or pump both at the same time. I could adjust the strength of it pumping (that is a very good thing so it doesn't feel as if your boob is being ripped off). I got 2 sets of all my equipment so I always had a clean set. I would pump every 2-4 hours. Oh, also it is in a black briefcase looking thing so you can take it out in public and nobody knows you are carrying your breast pump. Mine has a pouch where you can put all the wires and attachments and one where you can put some ice packs and 2 4oz. bottles. Good Luck on your decision and convincing your mom.
ETA: I forgot to say this but it also has a place to put batteries in case you need to pump and you don't have access to an outlet.

I have the Medela double pump and never used both at the same time. I guess it's just a matter of personal preference.

I have a medela pump in style electric double...I couldnt pump both at the same time though...my nipples were flat (yeah they're not anymore!) and the fact that my boobs are big, I needed my other hand to hold the boob I was pumping...
But I love my pump!
