    How long to BF for?

    Advertisements
Im at a loss here. I want to BF him for as long as he needs, but IDK how long that is. I know you start solids anywhere between 4 and 6 months, but when would you stop BFing or formula feeding?

    I am confused.

BM or Formula should be their main source of nutrition until they hit a year old. Even is you start solids at 6months (recommended) you should always breast feed or bottle feed first and then offer the solids.

As for me, I BF'd Zoe with no supplementing (no formula) until she self weaned, which happened to be a few weeks after her first birthday. I'm doing the same with Kaia.

They wean themselves, but it will be in their own time.

Thats exactly what I want to do. So basically I can take his cue as to when to stop BFing?

I dont want to stop I never thought I would enjoy it this much.

I stopped with DS1 at 6 months b/c my supply suffered when I went back to work. I hope to BF DS2 longer, but I probably will not BF him past a year.

Matt's on formula but we're stopping at a year. With our next baby I'm hoping to breastfeed for that full year.

Just sometime before you turn into this woman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHRyRCHuQ7g

    Kidding. But also totally serious.

I'd shoot for a year or until he self-weans which is usually around 18 months.

    (How's the letdown going, btw?)

He will let you know when he is ready.

For most kiddo's it is between 6-24 months.
