Going out w/ newborn by yourself for the first time...

How old was baby, where did you go and how did it go?

I took G to the grocery store the other day, just the two of us. He behaved so well but everything else was terrible! His car seat would not fit on the shopping cart so I had to put it inside the shopping cart, I didn't have space for grocery so I had to leave lots of stuffs behind. Once I was about to pay he started crying, I had to go with him on the back of the car and feed him for about 20 min.

About a week for dinner, and she behaved perfectly. I kept a blanket over the seat though because I was worried about someone coughing on her or something. LOL I was such a nervous new mother.

A tip for the seats on grocery store carts... The carseats WILL fit in there, it will click onto the back of the built in metal thing for kids. But it's a giant pain to get it to lock on. I usually had to jiggle mine a bit and sometimes slightly slam it down. It takes a bit of force to get it to click over the metal frame. And it can be really hard to get it to UNlock once it's locked on. You'll get the hang of it after a bit. I got to the point where I could make it look effortless. But the first few times were pretty embarrassing having people watch me struggle with the stupid thing.

2 days old with my oldest we had to get a u/s at another hospital about 40 min away, we stopped to eat on the way back she did good.
usually within the first week i had to take them out, the trip always went well.
with YDD it was WIC and with DS we went to San Diego.

I don't remember with Luke, cause I really didn't have anywhere to go alone. But when I had my 2nd kid. I went out a week later with both kids by myself. Keep in mind that they are only 13 months apart..lol.
I went to eat.. just us 3.
Now going out with all 3 kids and just me isn't that hard. lol.. I feel weird without them.

Wow I guess I waited a while before getting brave enough to do it on my own. I guess the more I do it the easier it will get.
It is still hard on me taking him out with people imagine just by my self. I wish I had someone here with me telling me how to make things easier.

He was 3 days old, I was going stir crazy. We went to wal mart and a friends house. I cant get the carseat to fit on the shopping cart at the commisary here, it just doesnt work! I either put him right in the shopping cart like you did or put him in the baby carrier. Pain in the butt!

DH pretty much left when DS was born, so it was pretty soon that I started going out w/ him by himself. He's been great up until recently (he's almost 2 now), so that's the part that I'm nervous about...
