he sleeps almost all day long, wakes up long enough to eat and soil a diaper then right back to sleep and again same thing at night

what should i do to keep him awake? or just let him sleep?

Don't worry about it. He's supposed to sleep that much. Keeping him awake will just make him overtired and extremely fussy.

I was told when DS was first born that he should only be awake for about a half hour at a time.. And he will sleep about 20 hrs a day.

well all babies are different. Don't worry hun. He'll be awake more often when he's ready and then you will want him to go back to sleeping more.

I worry about the same thing. Sometimes he has days where he sleeps almost all day (like today, I think he has been awake for about an hour all day and its 4 in the afternoon) and sometimes he is awake almost all day.
