so how come it still bleeds not like gushing or anything just a little blood and it is red there kinda oozing sometimes but not all the time (hard to explain)

have used alcohol on it 2x and it isn't red around it nor hot to the touch nor is there a foul smell and the stump is black still

DS's bled a little in the couple of days before his stump fell off. My pediatrician said as long as it wasn't a lot of blood, it's normal. But if you're worried, you should call your doc.

you might not be using enough alcohol. Are you putting a decent amount on it every diaper change?

the hospital told me no care was needed and if we wanted to do the alcohol we could but it really didn't need it so i have only been doing it when i bath him which is like 1x a week cause his peepee is still healing too

all they said was just give a sponge bath dont wash it and let it do it's own thing and it will fall off without any care

when i do it the cotton ball is wet with alcohol i mean i am not pouring it on

I was told by my doctor to use alcohol every diaper change. His umbilical cord fell off after 12 days

the hospital told me once its dried up you dont have to put alcohol on it anymore. i never did because the nicu always changed her diapers so i dont know if it continued to bleed or anything!

im sure he's fine.. if it keeps up i'd notify the dr though. maybe you could tell them about the bright part. when is his next checkup?

The alcohol helps dry it out.

You're not supposed to get it wet and definitely not supposed to submerge it in water. They arent supposed to have a full bath until it has completely fallen off. The oozing might be because it's getting tugged at by the diaper or because you have gotten it wet.

They told me at the hospital not to put alcohol on Grace's stump, or do anything to clean it. Said that alcohol can get absorbed into the body I swear every other day they change what they think.

    I cleaned it anyways.

Grace's fell off after 3 days, and it's been off for a week now.. It still weeps blood, but I don't mess with it..

I would think that it's not worth worrying about unless it looks infected, right? Isn't it funny how we fret and worry over these brand new babies?
