    Traveling with a newborn?

    Advertisements
Has anyone traveled 12+ hrs with a newborn? Would you recommend it. DH wants to go back to MO Feb 26..and the Baby is due Feb 12. I personally don't wanna travel with a 2 week old baby or less. What are your thoughts?

I hope you have a lot of breaks in between driving. You'd have to prob sit in the back with the baby to feed him and stop for diaper changes. luckily he'll be a newborn because newborns sleep a lot, especially in the car.

No way I would do it. They feed sooo often, and need to be burped several times between, not to metion all of the diaper changes. Plus, a baby that small is not on a schedule and there's no telling how well they would do in a different environment. I think it's a bad idea.

I did it with Liam soooo many times. That's a very easy age actually....they sleep most of the time! There will need to be lots of stops, but it's not bad at all, IMO.

If you're baby is a "sleeper" in the car it won't be a problem at all. THey sleep so much when they are newborns anyways, that you'll just hve to pull over, feed them, change them, and put them back in the carseat. DD falls straight to sleep after 3 minutes of being in the car. And she'll sleep until I stop the car

I hope everything goes okay with your L&D and you guys get an easy baby!

only if on the bottle. no breastfeeding in a moving car!

it could work... but yeah, you'd stop a lot. it would be a looooooong drive.

I agree! I did it on an 18+ hr drive back home to IL when my daughter was around 3 weeks old. She did great, slept a lot! I breastfed, but didn't want to constantly stop so I just got a car adapter for my Medela pump and pumped in the car into a bottle and fed her that way. It was actually much easier than traveling with her when she was 3-4 months old since newborns tend to sleep much more.
