    Question Post partum swelling

    Advertisements
The whole time I was pregnant I never had any swelling except for some in my fingers. The minute we got home from the hospital my right ankle swelled up really bad. I've been putting it up and put ice on it last night. Alot of the swelling has gone down but there's still some. Is this normal?

Have you got your blood pressure checked?

One leg or ankle swelling could be a sign of a blood clot..

I'd go in for a check just in case! That was something they told me to watch out for when I went home(but I did have bad pre-e so I don't know?)...

That happened to me and it was because my BP was sky high. I would at least call and ask.

They checked it right before they discharged me and it was about average. I'm still going to call just to see.

yeah but being in the hospital and being home are two totally different environments... i'd still get it checked, things can change rather quickly, and you just had a babe, and you want to be there for that babe!

I think if it was both legs swelling, then it would be no biggie.. But with only one leg swelled up, there's something going on with that one leg that's out of the ordinary..

Let us know okay? Keep us updated..

Swelling post partum actually tends to be worse for a lot of people than the last weeks of pregnancy. Every time I delivered, I swelled up like a water balloon, it was terrible.

However, the swelling is *usually* over the whole body, not just one leg or ankle... that COULD indicate a blood clot which is a big concern after delivery (particularly csections though).

I would definitely get it checked.
