    Help breast pumps...

    Advertisements
My mom never bf'd any of us kids so i've never had any real experience with it. so i'm clueless and a bit intimidated to be honest. but i know it is best for baby so i'm going to give it my best shot. my question is this....

how do you choose a breast pump? some are really expensive and i'm afraid that if for some reason the breastfeeding doesn't work out I don't want to have been out $300. kwim? On the other hand i'm not sure how great manual pumps are. Seems like a lot of work....

Any advice? I know you can rent them but that seems just icky to me. Maybe not.

I really have no advice. We decided against getting a pump because I will be staying home with him during the time I'm breast feeding so it seemed pointless to buy one if I'll never be away from him. I hope someone else can give you a good answer though.

I really like the Medela pump in style but thats about 278 new. I would maybe get a cheaper one till you see how breastfeeding is working out, then go from there.
    Siggy under construction!!!

Are you on WIC by any chance? I know my WIC in Oklahoma gave mothers who exclusively bf for at least a month a brand new electric double pump to keep. I believe it was an Amedia. The pump worked really well too.

Hmm can you maybe start putting away a little bit of money each paycheck and put that towards a pump? Or if you are having a shower ask your guests to put money towards the pump as there "gift"?

the medela swing is a good pump it's $150 but good for pumping good amounts especially if you're not exclusively pumping.
