Cloth diaper info....the basics

Pocket diapers are the ones I showed you with the pocket in the back that you stuff the pads in and I showed you I was using 2. these are great because you can make the diaper as absorbant as you want which is great for over night and shopping trips. All In ones are a complete diaper....the padding is sewn into the diaper and all you do is snap or velcro it on, no stuffing involved. The most like a disposable diaper in my opinion. Downside is that you cant make it more absorbant unless you lay a liner in between the baby and the diaper. I do really like these though. Fitted diapers...like the firetruck one I showed you, no plastic lining inside the diaper and it needs a cover. I am just starting to use these and they are not bad but more complicated than using pockets or AIO's. CPF's (Chinease prefolds), Indian Prefolds, Flats...the old flat white diapers that need pins or a thing called a snappi.http://www.earthbaby.com/snappis.html Easy to use but not as convient or easy as the above diapers. These also need a cover. But are the cheapest option for cloth diapering. Covers..http://http://www.greenmountaindiape...covers.htm.can be anything from vinyl, wool, or fleece. I have fleece and vinyl and they work very well. Can be reused because the fitted diaper or CPF catches and holds all the pee and hopefully keeps the poop in. Only need to be washed every few days or when poopy escapes and gets on the cover. I cant use wool because I am allergic and wool covers require special washing and lanolising or they will leak but some are darn cute! http://www.sitonknits.com/store/WsAncillary.asp?ID=1 Cloth wipes....I use cloth wipes and I also buy Huggies wipes for when we go out and for hands, faces, wiping up mystery sticky stuff in the van ect....wipes are invaluable in my book. I love cloth wipes at home though. They can be washed with the diaper laundry....these are what I have and love em! http://sugarbritchesdiapers.com/instock.html also, when I use huggies wipes to change a diaper, I just wrap it in the diaper and wash it with the diaper load...it comes out of the dryer a piece of dry cloth that I just pull out and throw away. Storage....when they come out the dryer, I stuff all the pocket diapers so they are ready to go and put them in stacks on the changing table. Once i change a dirty diaper it gets put into a plain plastic diaper pail (garbage can from Target) in the laundry room. I wash every night before bed. I toss all the diapers in the washer, shake the liners out as I go and give them a cold wash, no soap. Once that is done, hot wash with about 2 tablespoons of arm and hammer free and clear, I then check the rinse cycle to make sure there are no bubbles on the surface. if theres bubbles then I rinse again. once they are done I line dry and occasionally dryer dry. You dont have to wash every night depending on how many diapers you have I just find it easier. Occasionally you might get stinky diapers , i had this problem when we lived in an apartment and i had to use the front loader not so great washers. they reeked like pee, I had to use boiling hot water to wash to "burn off" the built up soap the washer wasnt rinsing off completly. Since going back to washing nightly I havent had a problem with stink or build up. Also , now that hes older and his poop is more solid I drop it off into the toilet before putting the diaper into the diaper pail. For stains you can dry them in the sun and the sun will bleach it out. liners...there are liners you can buy that come in rolls like toilet paper but they are about a thick as papertowels. you lay it in the diaper so you can just grab the ends and toss it and the poop in the toilet. I never found a use for them personally. I did wait to use cloth untill after he stopped having the newborn merconium poopie though. It can stain cloth. note that the sites I linked for diapers are just a few of hundreds! the diaper pin site lists and has links to a ton of diaper sites.If you have any questions feel free to ask. Wow! That is a lot of great information! I'll have to sit down and look at the sites after my playgroup today but I've been wanting some info about cloth diapers. I'm sure these sites will really help. I'm really glad you posted this.. thanks

Heres a few pics I have on my computer...
outside of a pocket diaper with a liner inside.  more outsides of pocket diapers...  pocket diaper without a liner inside...  liner that goes inside of the pocket of diaper..  pocket at the back of the diaper where the liner is stuffed...  inside of the diaper...  inside of a diaper with a fleece liner... just for good measure an adorable baby in cloth! at 2 weeks...  at a week old...  at 6 weeks old...

Looks like mine might be ready in time. I got the confirmation email from Fabrite saying they put my fabric through for work. So, if baby comes ontime or late, I should be ready.
I went to that one forum, I need to go back and read up on some things again today.
