Cloth diapers and diaper rashes...
Ok, DD has VERY sensitive skin. Like Pampers wipes are all too rough and make her red and rashy as soon as they touch her skin, and after a while she developed a sensitivity to Huggies Naturals so I had to switch to Huggies Sensitive. She gets rashy very easy when she has certain types of bowl movements (pretty much as soon as it touches her skin), and once she starts a rash, it gets bad very quickly especially if she has more than one of those types of bowl movements the day the rash starts (like BM's from too much fruit or too acidy food). I alternate rash ointments (Boudreaux's butt paste, A&D oinment, Desitin) until I find what works best on that particular rash (it varies depending on the rash).
I also try to let her air out as much as possible but she usually pees on stuff (my poor couch usually..lol). This rash she has now, she had 3 of those types of bowel movements today within a few hours of eachother that started the rash and then turned it into the worst one she's ever had. It's VERY angry and red with raised bumps-poor thing, and it's painful for her too. Especially with this rash, I'd like to let her air out more often without getting pee all over the place. So my questions are: Are cloth diapers good for airing out diaper rashes? Or do cloth diapers make rashes worse and it's better to let them be "free?" If you've used regular diapers before, which do you find makes rashes worse the most: cloth or regular? Anyone else have any diaper rash advice? |

I know that my parents used cloth on us because we were very rashy kids, but disposables were very different back then. I plan on using cloth with the new baby. Do you have a fenced in yard she can run around naked in? We did that with our kids when they had rashes like that. They seem to get worse in the summertime.
I hope you can find an answer!

I used 'sposies with my DS. With DD we used 'sposies briefly before switching to cloth. She too was very rashy & had super sensitive skin...until we switched to cloth. After that, I think in 2 years she maybe had 2 rashes. We also used cloth wipes with her a lot, which helped.
I would definately do cloth! |

My DD had a horrible diaper rash after a bout of the stomach virus. Her's actually bled, so I took her to the dr. He recommended letting her air out and stay naked as much as possible, and she spent 3 days alternating between naked and wearing cotton panties. (keep your steam cleaner handy..LOL) We also spent over a week applying hydrocortisone cream& antifungal cream mixed together and then a layer of A&D over top of that to her diaper area.
Dr. also recommended using baby wash cloths and water to clean her diaper area when I changed her.. that helped a ton. Cornstarch or oatmeal baths soothe the burning, and Dr. said it was fine to do this once a day.

I have found that for really bad rashes using a cornstarch baby powder was the best. I did not have to touch the area and aggrivate it more and it would start to clear up after about 2 diaper changes. Good luck.

Aarons Dr. had me use Lanolin on his behind because it heals quickly. I get my lanolin at Wal-Mart and now they have come up with Lanolin Wipes and I love that. I would of never thought of using Lanolin on his rash because I used it on my nipples during breast feeding, but it works better on rashes than anything else I have tried so I don't use anything else anymore.
