How do I pump and still make sure there is enough in the boob to fill her up for her next feeding?

i only feed from one boob at a time, so i'd feed her on one side, then pump the other side....

ETA: or pump AFTER she eats

Yes, not a huge stash, but there are times when I would like to go to the gym or run to the grocery store without the kids or I might have to pick up my in-laws from the airport and I want to have some breast milk at home on hand so that if she does get hungry say an hour after I feed her my hubby's not left with nothing to calm her.

I usually pumped after a feeding. So that anything that was left so stashed for later.
Once my babies got older and started sleeping through the night, I'd wake up and pump halfway through the night.

I pumped after a couple of feedings a day, and once they started sleeping through the night I pumped right before I went to bed. It worked well for me, I had a ton of milk saved up.

I was told by our Lactacian Consultant to pump while she feeds... if I pump and she's not feeding, I won't get as much. If I pump while she does, then I've gotten around 2-3.5 oz!

That's a good question. I was wondering the same thing. I want to primarily breast feed but I'd also like to be able to pump some so my husband can help with bottles once in a while for me to get a break

So you were told to pump one side while she is on the other?
