    The Silent Ranks

    Advertisements
I wear no uniforms, no blues or army greens
But I am in the Army in the ranks rarely seen
I have no rank upon my shoulders - salutes I do not give
But the military world is the place where I live
I'm not in the chain of command, orders I do not get
But my husband is the one who does, this I can not forget
I'm not the one who fires the weapon, who puts my life on the line
But my job is just as tough. I'm the one that's left behind
My husband is a patriot, a brave and prideful man
And the call to serve his country not all can understand
Behind the lines I see the things needed to keep this country free
My husband makes the sacrifice, but so do our kids and me
I love the man I married, Soldiering is his life
But I stand among the silent ranks known as the Army Wife

I am so in love with this poem. Once we get settled into our new home I am going to get this printed on a canvas to hang on the wall (H)

I won't lie. I paused reading at the bolded because I fervently disagree with that statement. It is a sweet poem, though.

I agree. I never identify myself as anything other than DH's wife. Our relationship has nothing to do with the military and my position is definitely nothing close to being in any form of rank.

    Cute poem though.

    And that one.

But yea, I've read this poem before & it is cute.

"Thank you so much. No matter what, nothing is possible without you behind the scenes bustin heads and takin names. Thank you again. Everything you have done for me means a lot and nothing has gone unnoticed. I love you so much and thank you for saying 'I do.'"

I like how the rest of the poem creates parallels between the life of a soldier and his wife, but I feel the assertion that a spouse is in the armed forces and has an equally difficult job to detract from the beauty of the sentiment.
