    Tattoo's

    Advertisements
I know this has probably been asked before...probably even by me. Yesterday at work a sailor came in that was tattooed all the up and down his arms. I was under the impression that they could only have them anywhere that would be covered by a short sleeve shirt. Did that change? Is there anywhere that I can read about this rule? I want dh to have tons of tattoos! hehe

It used to be the case where it was overlooked. Awhile ago they started making record of the tattoos that our sailors had and if they got anymore they would get into trouble. Of course most sailors go ahead and get more. Usually depends on the command he is in.

You can get a waiver if you have them pre-service, but as far as i know, their not supposed to get any visible ones once they are in & all are noted by their command. I know in some commands issues have come up with military personnel getting their wedding rings tattooed on their fingers bc they can't wear them while working/deployed bc of their job... in those cases it was simply decided by the higher ups.

My ex had to get all his documented and had to go in front of a panel of sorts because some could have been considered "racist" but he was cleared and everything was okay. He has almost full sleeves atleast the forearms, his lip is even tatted, his legs, chest, back... He is covered and he has 0 when he went in... he loves his tatts

you can't have them below your elbows now, though people who had them prior to the "rule" are permitted to have them... though i believe they had to have them documented as soon as the rule came about.

From my understanding prior enlisted tattoos that are showing are ok. But you arn't suppossed to have any that can be seen while you're uniform is on (with the sleeves down) but from what I've been told the army is changing that. I've seen a ton of army guys here go and get hand tattoos.
