    Shore Duty

    Advertisements
Ok, so my sailor is up for reenlistment... and we were hoping to get shore duty here in San Diego or anywhere else for that matter so he can go to school. Well I have been hearing that any sailor on shore duty is being sent on a deployment to Iraq. Does anyone know how true that is? He'll only sign up for 3 years of shore duty. If anyone knows anything about it, it would be much appreciated. We're trying to figure it out now... so that way we still have time to just no reenlist. THANK YOU!

We just came off shore duty and there is some truth to that. There is a large possibility of his being chosen to go IA to Iraq which I understand is an all ground forces type of duty. If I am wrong someone please correct me.

There's some truth to that.. I was worried since DH will be on shore after this school he's at. Thankfully they're less likely to pull someone who has an NEC specific to that command. Quad 0 are more likely to be pulled from what DH said.

It all depends on your sailors rate.

I agree. I think it does depend on the rate and the job they do.

Well my DH is shore duty and just left for IA. Most of the ppl in his command have either been sent or will go soon. So there's a good possibility I think.

There is some truth to that. My husband is an EM and he's already heard about it b/c we're about to go on shore duty. But there are many things that will factor into him having to go to Iraq. I think from what I gather(dont' quote me on this) there taking people who's jobs atm arn't a need. For instance if my husband gets sent to sermac(sp) he has a good chance of going b/c he isn't really needed there. I could be WAY off but that's waht I gather from what I've heard.

He's an instructor, he teaches ISM (Information Systems Maintenance). He's an ET.
