Purchasing a home at your future duty station...

Have any of you purchased a home BEFORE taking a walk-though or looking at it in person?! If so, do you have any regrets?! Or was everything as great as expected?!

I have been thinking of doing this too! I want to buy a modular home up in ft. lewis so we can control our room size, quality of housing, etc. But I am weary. I would arrange to send a home inspector through and to ask for detailed pics of every room.

I woulnt do it. What if the houses around it bring the value down or what if its in bad area. That is a huge purchase. Be very careful.

We are kind of doing something like that. Dh is going down at the end of April to check out some homes and pick one out for us. I can't go because plane tickets are too expensive so he's going to take some pictures and send them to me. Good thing I trust him

A plane ticket is a waste of money you can live with... buying a house that you don't like isn't... Where are you looking to buy anyways? Maybe someone here could tell you about the area...

I would not recommend it. You would need to make sure that you have a really competent and trustworthy home inspector. It would be helpful to have someone you trusted and knew your tastes to look at it beforehand as well.

I've rented before looking at an apartment, but not bought - too much money at stake!
