    It depends on the area, the base, and the BAH. Sometimes on-base housing is awesome, brand new, and since you don't have utility costs, it's absolutely the better deal. Sometimes BAH is higher than you can find a great apartment for, even after utilities, and in that case, off-base housing would be a better choice.

    Depends on so many things that a general answer can not be given.

    lets see there is:
    Family size
    BAH rate
    Location
    housing choices from either option
    possible extra bills from off base housing.

    There are pros and cons to both, but ultimatly, you have to look at cost, location, etc. We have 3 kids (with a 4th on the way) it is MUCH cheaper for us to live in a brand new house onbase then a crappy falling apart on offbase.
    I do prefer to live onbase if I can as I have that extra sense of security with DH is away or working nights.
