Does anyone know anything about how the geographical bachelor thing works? What about the government storing your belongs while being deployed? And lastly do I need dh to enroll our newborn into DEERS (he'll be deployed when she is due).

In regards to the geobachelor question... You husband will receive BAH for whichever place (where he is or where you are) has the higher BAH. There's not much else too it really.

So since I'll be in Jersey for a couple of months after we're married, he'll draw a bit more BAH since Jersey has a higher cost of living?

ok, i had never heard about it until he mentioned it last night, but he wasn't sure about the details of it.

If I remember correctly you draw BAH on where your orders are, so if you are stationed in California then you get that BAH. regardless of where you live. For the baby, when you have her keep the certificate the hospital gives you, send that to him snail mail he takes that to his DK who would have her enrolled in DEERS. You will be responsible for making sure she is enrolled in Tricare seperatly. As far as geo bacholers go some bases are making them live out in town rather than the barracks because of space problems, so it just depends on the base he is at. HTH

You can take the paperwork in and have the baby added if he is deployed
I had to take my first DS to Womack Army Hospital in NC to have him enrolled in Deers while my dh was deployed and there were no problems

My husband was a geobachelor with his ex wife and he received the BAH for where her she was not where he was stationed because the BAH was higher where she was. They chose which BAH they wanted and naturally everyone will choose the higher BAH.

i always thought BAH was for where the family was.

You get the BAH where he is Stationed, not where you live. We just went through this a couple of months ago. Jeff was stationed in MD. I lived in MS. We drew BAH for MD. He will get MS BAH when he checks into battalion next month.

But MD is obviously higher than MS too so it still sounds like what everyone said
We were alwasy told that it is where the family is too
