From off post to on post

We are looking into selling our current home and moving on post staying of course at the same duty station. Will the Army pay to move us or will this be something we have to pay for? My husband came here after basic and has been stationed at the same place for almost 10 years. He has never had the Army pay for a move or even a DITY move.

Did he live onbase when he first got there? If he did then they will not pay, it will be out of pocket, however if you lived offbase the entire time he has been there then yes they will. He will need to go to TMO and set up a briefing and everything and they will be able to give him all the info on how to claim if it is a DITY or set up movers for him

He did live on post when he first was stationed BUT he only lived in the barracks and then we sent off post because they had no room for him.

weither he lived onpost in housing or in barracks, they should have paid for him to move off, if they did not it was most likely because he didn't go through the right channels to do the move. But unfortunatly because he has lived on that post already, they will not pay for you to move back on. Sorry

Not necessarily. It will depend on a few circumstances. My ex lived in the barracks and moved off base. He was paid for that move off base, but when we moved into base housing, they paid for that move as well. It depended on how long between the moves.

Yes, but you also got married before you moved back onbase so it was a move with dependents which is an exception. I was just about to post that

OP did you get married before or after he moved offbase?

There is a good chance they will pay for him to move on base especially if in the past 10 years he married you. They will pay for a move from off base to on after a marriage even if the active duty member has lived on base and than off base already.

He needs to contact TMO (the transportation office) to double check for his base just to be sure because some places do things differently.

Thanks everyone for your responses. We did get married after he moved off post. I do know when he came to our duty station, the Army did not pay for him to move here nor did they pay to move him off post. He did both moves himself, not DITY either. I will have him check with the transportation office.
