It all depends on what is available when he comes up for orders, also what is family situation might be when that time comes. Orders are a game of chance really. sometimes you get lucky and the places you want are available in your rate, rank, and NEC.

If he is over sea's now, and he wants to remain over sea's he has a fairly good chance since he has already cleared over seas screening. What he needs to do is at least 9 months prior to him shifting orders is be in direct contact with his detailer and keep calling him back EVERY week, this is the only way to get the orders you really want.
during my 6 1/2 years i did active duty i picked my orders 2 times, and i picked them once in the reserves, i have only ever once been sent some where i did not pick in almost 9 years of naval service. |

yup, we always started looking 9 months out. 11.5 yrs in and we have yet to be handed orders that we didnt ask for. they may not have been our #1 choices, but the navy never picked for us. |

Haha we were handed Norfolk with no choice
We had everything in order for HI and then all of a sudden we were heading to Norfolk ![]() Detailer didn't do his job so we got screwed in the end ![]() Dh was supposed to have orders BEFORE school, but some how all of his paperwork was lost and he supposedly wasn't in the Navy even though he was sitting in school So it does happen just not ALL the time We picked Charleston and put here after about 50 other choices. |
