Big Grin getting your stuff moved

    Advertisements
Does anyone have any stories to share on their experiences having their stuff sent overseas? Like length of time your stuff's in transit, water damage, ect? My husband and I are moving to Japan, he mentioned a "horror story" of water damage from someone in his office and I'm curious if that was a horrible accident or if it's something to expect. Thanks!!

9 times out of 10 you will get your HHG's with little or no damage.

there are always horror stories. and yes accidents and acts of god do occur.

but in all the moves we have ever made we have never had a serious issue.

    This.

Just to be safe, even when we moved to AK, we put our pics/portraits (the ones that couldn't be replaced) in our baggage that we carried with us.

I used to secretly wish all of our stuff would fall off the boat so we could get all new stuff...

    Never happened though...

this really did happen to a family going to Kodiak AK- this happened in 2000 and the entire container fell off a cargo ship ( along with several others) in high seas - they were not properly secured!!

they did get all new stuff- + a small settlement from the cargo ship company!

    Oh...that would be nice...New stuff...

the only thing that would suck is losing all family pictures...although my mom has almost all the same ones I do.

So far we haven't had any issues with our stuff getting damaged while in transit. Hopefully when our stuff is moved back from Korea this spring it will be ok.

Took us 2months to get my stuff. My bed was broken and my washer and dryer was strached and was missing the nobs. Other than that everything was fine.

The wait was the worst Gov funiture sucks sooo bad.

Yep, the couches are the worst. Just imagine the furniture in a doctor's office waiting room. (The mattresses are pretty bad too...)

OMG! That is the most uncomfortable crap I have ever sat on in my life. The mattress had the plastic on it so it crunched everytime you would move.
