We just recently found out that because DH failed his PT test that they are denying is reenlistment. He was suppose to reenlist in April. We have to be out of base housing by April 12 and his finally day in the military is May 28th. We really don't want to stay here but aren't sure where we are going. He told me that the military would move us or we could move ourselves. He said that they would still pay us if we moved ourselves. Now my question is do we pay up front and get reimbursed or will they give us a certain amount to move. This is pretty confusing but I think I got everything but that.
This changes so much for us and it sucks. Everything happens for a reason though. I'm hoping that someone else has gone through this and can give me some advice.

the moving works the same way as any other PCS move- if you do a full PPM you can get 60% of the estimate up front-
they will also move you anywhere you want- as long as it is equal or lesser distance to the home of record. if is farther they will charge you so much per pound per mile- last yr it was about 1 per pound per mile. ( 600 miles = 600 dollars) |

they will only give the money 30 days in advance- so if you want it 30 days in advance you have to request it 30 days before that.
you can have them move it to storage- for you and then when you find a place move it to the place on your own. Or you can tell them the city and then they can store it for 90 days for you free. BUT they cannot do anything with out at least a general location. when we moved to Kodiak we did not have an address- they just shipped it and put it in storage until we got a place. it will work the same for you. |

pods are a great thing!! however before deciding on doing it go here and get a quote on the PPM amount-
this is navy but the rates cover all 5 branches. https://pptas.ahf.nmci.navy.mil/pptacalc/index.jsp you may get a warning just click the middle line to get thru. |

One thing to keep in mind is if you choose to move yourself, you will be separated from the military and may not have access to base services such as transportation office, etc. if you need to follow up with getting paid travel. IF the military moves you, any damages or follow up can be done with the moving company itself.
