DH has his Jeep registered in Tennessee and it has always been that way. It won't change until he is out of the military and we settle down somewhere.

Registration
Hubby's home state is Arizona but we register our cars in California. It would cost us about $200 to register in Arizona but only costs $45 to do it in Cal. (Military Non Resident Rate) This way we also don't have to deal with SMOG checks in Arizona.

We changed ours when we moved here but that was because in NY ($3000 every six months for ins and here we pay $750 for the year) we paid an arm and a leg for ins. We changed everything not to go through the hassel of seeing if rates would change with same plates different location.

I just sent out the forms for my SUV to get Oregon plates. DH oped out of VA plates when he bought his new car. To renew CA wanted $220.00 thats when I got boot to change over to Oregon, much cheaper for 2 years $186.00. I think we will keep the OR plates forever.

We keep ours the same. Our home state is Montana, and they are really good to the military. We don't pay state taxes or property taxes, so it costs us nothing to renew our plates. They also gave my dh an unexpirable driver's license. I wish they would give me one, since it's a pain to go back and get a driver's license, but they last 12 years, so it's not too bad.
