Navy and Army?
I wasn't really sure where to put this, but I have really been thinking about signing up with the Navy once I finish my graduate school program. I have had several friends who are currently in, and I have heard a ton of good things about Navy life. However, my fiance is currently enlisted in the Army and plans to go career. How difficult is it - or is it impossible - to be able to pcs near eachother? Or would I even be able to join the Navy once we get married?
This has been a thought in the back of my mind for quite sometime and I love the Army dearly, however, I have always liked the Navy as well...

It just depends on what you want to do in the service. Obviously you would like to become an Officer after grad school so you two just have to plan your careers a little better than most dual military families.

first thing you have to understand is that you would not be entitled to co- location-
both branches will not work with you to get you stationed together, this is something that will be difficult to do for these 2 branches. DH has a co-worker that is CG his wife is an army Pilot- both officers- they have not lived together for 8 yrs of thier 10 yr marriage- she retires in 2 yrs and will be moving here to finally be with her DH- they never had children. I knew a lady who was Navy, her Dh a marine- they have not lived toggether for 5 yrs- they could not co- locate- she was in DC he was in NC, when it came time for orders the best thing they could do was get the same coast- and they had to do that on thier own, niether branch would work with them. these are 2 instances- I have heard others. it is a huge risk.

Depending on what rate/designation you both are, the options may be limited for co-location. BUT there are some alternatives. Check out any JOINT command, NORTHCOM, STRATCOM, TRANSCOM, PACOM, CENTCOM, etc. They have are 'purple' commands, which means they have all services there.
Also areas like Norfolk/Hampton Roads area have both Navy (Norfolk area) and Army (Fort Eustis) that can be done with some commuting. Also Fort Lewis/Bremerton area are close enough to be stationed seperately and can still commute. Plus Hawaii is concentrated enough to commute. |

I KNOW IF YOUR IN THE NAVY THEY WILL WORK WITH YOU. MY HUSBAND SAID THAT HE THINKS YOU JUST CANT WORK AT THE SAME BASE...LIKE THEY WILL FIND THE CLOSEST BASE NEXT TO THE ONE YOU OR HIM IS STATIONED AT...IT WOULD BE EASIER IF YOU WAS IN THE SAME BRANCH AS HIM THOUGH...
