housing..
Before DH deployed he *wasn't* going to re-enlist.. Now.. He IS going to re-enlist.
Our BAH is 940 (or 960 can't remember) and we were paying 740 for a 1bd 1ba 1ga apartment. It was brand new but REALLY ****ty. Anyway.. With post paying all your bills besides cable and internet.. Is it worth it to get on post housing and them keep our BAH or to find a house??? I'm leaning more towards on post because they have free college for wives at our post and I don't want to drive far to day care and to school but I'm unsure.. Also, When should I go to the post to get on the list?? I was thinking 2 months prior.. My lease is up in July and he doesn't get back till end of aug start of sep.. any help/advice is appreciated.

Ummm Thats up to you. If you could find less in a nice house ect then do it. if not then on post housing wouldbe your best apporach.
If you can't afford it then let it go. Not sure but once you leave on base then I believe it's hard for you to get back on..Not sure though

For us on post housing is a waste of money and unless we go over seas I doubt we would ever even consider it.
If you do decide to live onpost I would see how long the waiting list is, sometimes it is a lot longer than two months out. |

I just came from on post housing at fort riley. and it's well taken care of. i loved our house on riley.
the college you are talking about that they "payfor" is off post, out of the junction city gate. so no matter what you have to go off post. Junction City charges wayyyy to much for off post housing. we paid 450 a month for a 1 bedroom. also fort riley has a HELLA long waiting list, so you definatly need to call picerne and get all that set up to be put on the housing list (Which you would have to fax them your POA to do anything. Fort riley is really nit picky.) |

I think it really depends on the area. Like where we are, I would never live out in town. BAH here would barely cover rent somewhere leaving us to pay utilities out of pocket and the G&E is high for a solid 4-5 months because of the heat. Plus our base housing is pretty nice.
