Requesting orders

Hello,

Does anyone know if is it possible to simply request orders to PCS? My husband is going to be getting back from Iraq in a couple months and we want to PCS if possible. Thank you

In the AF, you can update your dream sheet but you don't just get orders. They give them if they need you to move. It all depends on if you reenlist, rank, what is available for your career field.

My friend was in the Navy and said serving in Iraq was almost a guarantee to PCS to your #1 on the dream sheet....she was only in 4 years so no idea if that's accurate

I don't think that's necessarily true these days a very large amount of military is in Iraq. It would be very difficult trying to guarantee everyone that's deployed their #1 on their dream sheet!

It sounds like your husband is getting home and you just want to move somewhere else. That probably won't happen. The military doesn't generally move people just because. You have to be reenlisting or something like that for the most part. Now, if he's reenlisting in his primary MOS, then you will probably get to pick a couple of places to go.

AF you can do one BOP per career, but choose wisely.. or you will get stuck in some craphole for the rest of his career..

The only likelihood of ya'll PCSing is if he is reenlisting or changing his MOS...they usually don't just hand out orders. If that was the case we would all be where we want to be

How true we would NOt be here if that's how it worked.

You (the active duty member) can always update their dream sheet and put in for orders (special duty, to another base with the same job) but it is never a sure thing. With the AF they like to have the duty member on station for several years (unless a first term airman which means have never reenlisted), before pcsing them unless it is for a remote or special duty job.

That is not to say it doesn't or can't happen, but generally a pcs is quite expensive for the military so they try not to do it just because someone wants to move.

Well it's more likely to happen in the Navy if a sailor does IA (individual augmentee) duty in Iraq or Afghanistan but a billet has to be available in order to get it, the sailor that did IA usually gets first dibs but there can be more than one IA sailor bidding for it. It's never guaranteed to get 1st pick.

Since my dh volunteered to come to Korea he gets his preference on what coast o be on for our next PCS which is the west coast for us, we both do not want east coast.
