housing while he's away - Military Moves and Relocation

Ok well when DF and I get married we're going to put our names on the housing list... the "estimated" time on the wait is 3-6 months for the housing we want... will I be able to move everything in even if he's still out to sea??? He said they are only going to be out for 4 months, but I'm not counting on anything until I see him standing on the pier in front of me... what all will I be able to do without him, with all necessary paperwork of course (ie... POA)???

You should have no problem moving in without him once you're married. You need his POA for anything that he would need to sign.

That's what I figured but I just wanted to make sure... I could just see me doing our first military move together all by myself over a friggin ocean... LOL! Welcome to the military! HAHA! At least I'm laughing about it... they technically won't move any of my stuff either so we've gotta get the car in both of our names and we don't have much we'll buy most of it there since it's overseas, so he himself shouldn't go over the weight that they will move for a single with all my stuff added to it... mostly clothes and pics and little things.. those add up though so who knows... LOL

You might need a special POA for housing. I needed one in order to leave housing in Guam since DH was already gone by the time I moved out. They had a prewritten form at legal that your DF will have to sign just like a general POA

Dh was gone when we moved into housing and I used a general POA. They never said anything about it. Here the navy will move you from civilian housing to navy housing, if they have the money. Sometimes of the year it is ok some it isn't. We did a dity move so we were reimbursed. HTH

All this paperwork is going to be difficult since we're getting married on Sat the 8th and he has to be back to Hawaii by 0600 on the 10th which is monday... I don't know when we're going to get all the paperwork in... the stuff for DEERS and Tricare and the POA and my ID and all that... even the housing stuff is going to be difficult... I guess he could turn it all in in hawaii, but that's going to take even longer for it to all go through and I'm going to have to use the Fort Worth base... I have a friend here at home that can get me on base, but it's not going to be easy... we don't have any time to get it all in... unless he's got the day wrong as to when he has to be back... I don't understand why they would dock him a whole day of leave, when he has to be back by 0600 of that day... it's gotta be the next day
