First Time PCS, We're moving to Ft.Drum***Updated*** Post #23

Yeah they hubby got orders for Ft.Drum NY, I'm excited because I've never lived in that part of the country and we will be so close to Canada. I've already been looking at stuff around Watertown and I'm getting excited, it's so much better then Ft.Riley Kansas. I'm kinda worried about making sure that we get the travel money and finding a place once we get there. We are doing a DITY move so any advice about doing that or about the Ft.Drum area is greatly appreciated. Thanks lady.

if you are going to do a full PPM ( the new name of DITY) you will need to make a special request- before you PCS- you can get 60% of the PPM estimate up front to help cover the cost of the PPM.

you can get some other PCS allowances in advance also- these are: per diem the daily allowance per person per day for each day of authorised travel.

MALT- this is for driving your own vehicle

DLA- this is money for just moving at is at least 1844 depending on rank and with or without dependants.

Yeah we are doing a full PPM but my husband is in GA and I'm in TX right now so I don't know what he is filling for. We have our stuff in KS and when he went to AIT he said that I was staying there so they should pay us to move from KS to NY right. I didn't know that you had to do a special request for it though but that could be the paperwork he is filling out for, with the MALT the need your car registration right? I'm pretty sure he will do the papers right, he's not too stubborn to ask a question if he is unsure of something.

Thanks that cleared up some questions I had. Does anyone know where I can find the weight limit they will reimburse us for?

yes they will pay from KS to NY-- BUT here is the thing- YOU HAVE TO rent the truck from KS!! you cannot rent it in TX and then drive it to KS to get your stuff.
the rental reciepts MUST show a KS rental place.

the reason you have to run a special request is so the member gets couseled on the PPM, there are some very strict rules with doing it and if yu do it wrong you can be out a lot of money.

it will be a MAX of 8,000 lbs, but it the reimbursement will be for actual weight moved.
