Oconus
Hey,
When you are moving from Conus to Oconus, you get so much weight to ship to get their faster right? How does that work? Does it go with the stuff you send normally and it is marked separate? Or do they come earlier and pack it up and ship it out? Thanks for the help!

this is called either an Express shipment or Unaccompanied baggage;
it is up to 1,000 lbs and most people send it way ahead so it gets there before them. you will seperate what you want to go and they will come pack it and ship it. this weight is included in your total weight allowance. there are rules to what you can and cannot ship.

I know what we are shipping. We have that assigned out. I just don't know how far in advance you ship it? Before your other luggage.

I shipped ours 4 weeks before we left - but we took 2 weeks leave- so actually 6 weeks before we arrived- it got there the monday after we did ( well was delivered) not sure when it got there really.
when we left we shipped it 4 weeks before leaving- took 3 weeks leave and called them when we got here and they delivered it the next day. on average expect the UB to take 4-6 weeks.

Thanks.
We are going to start weighing everything. I have two sets of pans, cots, blankets, bedding, clothes, shoes, toys, and I think that was it. Plus, all his military gear that should be around the 700 lb mark. i can't believe how fast this is going. We are also taking leave in route (not looking forward to that one.)

for the work gear- I suggest only taking essential gear- since most of the gear weight is free in normal HHG's.
DH only brings his work unforms and what ever uniform he needs to check in. other wise we seperate it for the HHGs so we don't get charged the weight. also off topic- sorta-- if you work from home, have a hobby that you make money on, are a troop leader or vollenteer the weight of those materials are now considered work wieght and are no longer counted- you and your DH are now allowed 500 lbs each.

Call the personal property office that is organizing your move to ask what the parameter for the UB is. There's the 'guaranteed' by date, I think 21 or 30 days? While your regular HHG can take up to 60 or 90 depending on where you're moving. You can also mail items to yourself (or to your sponsor if you don't have an address yet) and write off the expense on your taxes under moving expenses.
