Registration fees
This has become a big deal for me recently...
we moved the car to Texas when we did the ERD and kept the Hawaii plates at that time because we aren't required to change them due to his AD status. So it's time to renew the plates and I just wanted to register it in Texas because it has to be done at some point and they want $2000 to register the car here. I thought it was exempt because of his AD status... am I completely wrong or do I really have to pay the TT&L on the car? They are also telling me that I have to pay TT&L on the purchase price of the car not the appraisal value. Does anyone know anything about this?

we still have a lien on the car though and it's worth about $14000 right now if we were to try to sell it.

Did you pay sales tax on the vehicle when you purchased it? Everything that I'm finding online says that the only military members that are exempt are those that maintain out of state tags and license.

Dh was a TX resident until we got married, he was required to pay all TT&L on vehicles he purchased and licensed in TX. I just remembered this.
