Verbal orders vs Hard copies

So we got verbal orders but I'm so afraid of doing anything without hard copies! Knowing the military ANYTHING could happen but what to do? How "good" are verbal orders? What can I do with that? We are suppose to only have about 4 months to move overseas. This would be our first move since we've been married so I'm clueless!

I wouldn't count on anything. We had verbal orders to Alaska for 6 months. Guess where we're PCSing to? Chicago (hard copies, this time).

I wouldn't count on verbal orders either. There's not much you can do without hard copies in hand.

I guess we will be going crazy last minute
At least we know we will be renting the house out either way and that's what would worry me the most so we can do that anytime.

I know waiting on orders can be one of the most frustrating things ever! I hope you don't have to wait too long before having paper orders!

Yup. Don't start planning ANYTHING until you get those in writing.

Definitely have to agree with the other ladies. Although it may be a pain, wait for the paper orders.

You really can't do anything without hardcopy orders. Hopefully they will come soon.

We had verbal to England and it changed to Japan.
I wouldn't count on it, per se, but I would start on medical clearance (but don't send it in or anything), if you are going to want tourist passports and don't have them, get them, etc. Do what you can without having hard copies. Hopefully he'll get the papers soon.

I'm in the same boat as you right now. We have verbal but not hard copies (promised them in the next couple weeks, but we'll see) overseas too. We're expected to move between Nov and January (that's when they need him out of this command as it's a special duty). The only thing I've done and could do is go through the house organizing and getting rid of stuff pretty much like I would for any other move. The only thing I did different is I downsized a lot preparing to move into a smaller house.

Other than that, we can't do anything with verbal orders. You can't do anything with PPO or PSD, can't get that lien waiver thing to ship the car, can't even get a Property Manager for renting out our house or put it up for rent since we don't have a moving date yet, etc, etc. Basically, we can't do squat except wait.

So I feel you and our move will be set up last minute too.
