Unaccompanied Baggage

I'm getting mine and DH's stuff all sorted for the movers and seperating the HHG from the UB and was just wondering, is there anything you girls had sent in HHG but WISH you had done it unaccompanied instead? Anything you forgot you would need right away? I'm trying to make sure I make the move as smooth as within my means! TIA

pot holders!! we lived for 2 weeks without HHg's and these I did not send and wish I had!!!

We've done UB 6 out of 11 moves....where to start???

kitchen basics: cheese slicer, knives, cookie sheet, spatula, can opener, pots, pans, microwave (get a transformer when you get there)
linens: towels, sheets, pillows,
misc: scissors, notepads, tape (scotch and masking), pens, a few rubberbands, paperclips (it'll help keep papers together, you'll get tons from various places you check into in the new command), extra clothes/shoes, small tv/vcr/dvd player, chairs (card table and chairs was our best investment ever--throw in a few folding camping chairs, you'll need them!)

We sent everything except: cheap pots and pans we bought at Wal-Mart for like $15, paper plates, paper bowls, plastic cups, trash can, trash bags, toilet paper, paper towels, silverware and knives, can opener, spatula, scissors, microwave, pens, notebook, folders with pockets, air mattresses, sheets, pillow cases, blankets, TV, DVD player, DVD case, small stereo, folding camp chairs, toiletries, towels and wash cloths, hair dryer and flat iron, laundry detergent and fabric softener, and we kept out all of the clothes that we wear and took them with us.

We have also saved the box and packaging that our TV came in and we will pack it and take it with us next time. (It's a 42" flat screen) They damaged a lot of our furniture and our big TV last time and I don't want to take any chances.

Wow that's already a lot of stuff I wouldn't have even thought of! Would you recommend we buy a microwave before we get there since we don't already have one or just get one there and sell it before we leave?

If it were me, I would wait until I got to where I was going before buying one. You won't really need it until then, and it would be less to haul. You could also consider buying one on craigslist. Microwaves are not cheap, and to get a medium or large size one, you will shell out somewhere between $70-$100 +/-. You might find a good deal on craigslist!

Yeah there is a Lakenheath yard sale site too so we could probably find one on there. I know we are provided with 2 transformers when we get there and we have a lot of electronics so anything we can get by without having to buy American would be best I think. I wonder if the housing there comes with microwaves?

I would definitely wait to get the microwave. You may or may not get your unaccompanied baggage right away. And lakenheathyardsales might be a great place to get things like that too.

Off topic, but I'm hoping I can find a papasan chair on there! Katie, how long did it take you to get your unaccompanied stuff?
