Ques about hard copy of orders
So my husband received verbal orders last month to go to Whidbey Island and we are waiting on his hard copy of orders. My question is, his prd is Jan 1, 2010 and the new fiscal year is Oct 1. So since the fiscal year is Oct 1, does anyone have any idea when we should get our hard copy of orders. Also, any idea on when we might have to report to WA. I have heard rumors that your report date can be +/- 90 days from your PRD is this true? Just not sure what is going on and my husband is currently on deployment.

We're in a similar boat, although I don't want our verbal orders so if we can get them changed before they issue hard copy - I'll be thrilled. I'm actually hoping we DON'T get our hard copy orders soon cause that will give us a chance to change them. Or at least I can hope. |

Most orders to new duty stations say 'Report No Later Than' (RNLT) Jan 1, 2010 (for example). But there is also the 'DNLT' (detach no later than...this could be Jan 1, could be Jan 31...have to see the orders) date. These are just parameters for covering billets. If your hubby is coming off deployment or will be flying from the ship back to the states, the dates can be reworked to include leave and travel time. The gaining command (Whidbey Is) has to re-approve the report date if it's later than what is on the orders so they aren't short someone they may really need.
As far as when you receive the hard copies.....who knows. I assume you're Navy, since you're moving SD to Whidbey. We are as well and frankly, who knows. It's typically the 6 wk from moving mark for us (we've done 11 moves in 18yrs). You could go ahead and book all the moving stuff from the verbal orders then change them when you get the orders. You'll love WA ST!! |

We're waiting on hard copies. I don't know if DH has had time to check to see if they're there or not, but I'm betting he has and they're not there yet. I didn't expect any today since I know they're so back logged. But we're supposed to be leaving here between Nov and Jan so hopefully they'll show up in the next couple of weeks.

I know that with us, we never got our hard copy orders until 60 days prior to report no later date. May be different because it is AF though.
