    you don't have to pay DLA back and we didn't have to show any receipts. You get DLA based on your SO's rank so it's a specified amount.

    you can save your reciepts to claim on your tax return (such as moving expenses like moving van, gas, etc)

    You can only claim things that you are not ALREADY being reimbursed for...costs above and beyond what the military is paying you for. Your examples above are all reimbursed already. It would not be the norm to have enough expenses to claim on your taxes, though it is possible.

    amanda is correct- and to the OP DLA is a flat rate allowance- you will never need to show reciepts for it- and the only time it is ever paid back is when the PCS is cancelled.
