How soon did you start packing?

    Advertisements
Mom is doing my move for me so that I don't have to sit around and wait any longer than the Army will make me. I have about a week left before I leave for Italy but I'm curious, how early is too early for you? When do you start packing for a move?

I'm going to be putting everything I own in my bedroom at my parents house so that when the movers come, my mom can open the door to my room and say "here you go... all of it please" and not worry about her stuff going missing elsewhere in the house. I have started cleaning out little things here and there but my mom thinks its funny that I'm already starting to get everything ready for her. I'm just excited I suppose!

I wait until about 1 month before I move anywhere to start packing. You can get a ton done in 1 month and you can take it as fast or slow as you want.

And I only have 1 week! If you were me, you'd probably be hustling a bit. Another member reminded me that the sooner you pack, the sooner you can relax and enjoy your time left at that home before going to the next. So true!

I've moved around quite a bit. Depending on how much stuff, I also start 2 months ahead. The first month I usually downsize/sell off/give away and do goodbye related stuff so that you don't have people harassing you at the last minute to get together when you are stressed. The month before, I organize little by little every day. With one week to do it, I'd start right away. Even if it's not a lot of stuff to organize/sort, the packing does kill time!

Oh my! Yeah, I'd be hustling my big tush LOL. It is true the sooner you pack, the sooner you relax. I only had enough stuff/furniture for a 2-3 bedroom apartment but relaxing is nice. I've never been able to relax around a move until after it's all moved, the furniture is settled and at least half the boxes are unpacked haha

You can make sure it is all in one room, but the movers will pack everything. They will wrap/box/label and pack, so don't actually pack anything.

This is especially true since your Mom is being your stand in. If you have anything boxed the movers will unpack it then re-pack since the original packer (you) isn't there to verify contents.
