    Favorite Location/duty Station?

    Advertisements
So... All those "seasoned" wives who have the experience of having lived in different locations for duties... What was your favorite one? Which one would you go back to if you had a choice? Are there any REALLY bad ones you wish you'd never seen?

I definitely wouldn't call myself a seasoned wife, but I've lived with my husband at 4 seperate duty stations. Hawaii, Guam, Washington, Connecticut, and back here in Hawaii again. Hawaii is our favourite, this is where we will push to stay. Washington is our least favourite. I think we' prefer to get out before we went back there. I know a lot of people really love it there though, just like there are quite a bunch that hate it here.
    Needs work.

I've only been to WA and GA, and I grew up in WA, so I would definitely not say seasoned, but I'd say Augusta, GA was pretty miserable. I have a lot of family from Virginia and North Carolina and I wouldn't mind being at Bragg. Honestly, I'm up for going anywhere.... but we think we're gonna be here for a while, so we bought a house. Now we can't go anywhere for a while. It's a good thing and a bad one.

If it weren't for the schools, Hawaii would be it. I love it there. Laid back, beautiful weather and though it is expensive, the COLA and the BAH make up for that. As a civil service employee, I would also get something like 25% COLA there.

    Seasoned, not old...

We're Navy, so we move more often than some of the other services....in 17 years we've been to:
San Diego (twice, love it both times)
Sasebo, Japan (not fabulous, not bad)
Seattle, WA (liked it, from the area)
Pearl Harbor, HI (had horrible medical incident at Tripler, really hated it)
Stuttgart, Germany (my favorite duty station ever)
Norfolk, VA (not fabulous, not bad)
Ft. Leavenworth, KS (not fabulous, not bad)
And last 2 years still in mid-west (rather not say where-OPSEC!), not fabulous, not bad.

At each place, I know people who absolutely love it there and some who absolutely hate it there, so you just never know!

Over 14 yrs as a Navy wife...

NAS Jax--liked it, close to lots of stuff to do, my family is there so I'm biased
NAS Brunswick---LOVED IT. Base is closing though
NB Norfolk--my mama taught me if I don't have anything nice to say...
    NB Pearl Harbor--LOVE it!
    NAS Sigonella, Sicily--LOVED it!

Also spent quite a bit of time at Dam Neck, VA, few weeks at Pensacola and few weeks in San Diego. All of those places were fine...SD was too big for my taste but so much to do and nice weather.

We are about to do 4 more yrs here in HI, we love it so much!

ditto to your opinion on hawaii.

the only thing that is making this move easy is the poor quaility of public schools past the 4th grade!

we were at nas barbers point and now MCBH and I love hawaii.....

    other bases:

NAS Fallon NV......not my idea of a good place to live
NAS Jacksonville....I enjoyed it there too thankfully as we're going back there in 2 months.

    Best: Pensacola, FL
    Worst: Ingleside, TX

We have been to Ingleside, Sheppard AFB, Pensacola, Guam, and now back at Sheppard AFB. Ingleside is the only one of those I wouldn't want to go back to.
