    Relocation to HI?

    Hi everyone,
Is an E3 in the Army allowed to take dependents to a station in Hawaii? I have heard mixed things about different branches.

Okay thanks. That's what I thought but I just heard today from a lady that a lot of spouses don't go even if Army. I do not want to live apart from him for three years, that's just not cool.

It's just us two, no children yet, we can live on his salary, and with BAH being so high or getting base housing we'd be just fine. Do you know where I can find out for sure? The base we're at now?

E3 can in the Army. There is lots of housing here, since you can actually live in any branches homes (Navy, AF,etc) and I doubt you'd wait long for a 2br in housing. Actually, you'd probably get right in.

What is it you want to know? BAH for HI? Plus you get COLA too. If you live in housing you don't get BAH but if you are jr E I'd live in housing here, utilities are high.

Navy rules are E4 and up w/dependents (wife counts.)

Oh thanks! Worries abated. :-) Just wanted to make sure. He might be an E4 by then but not sure about that. Also not sure we're headed there yet...it's only on AKO which I know can change. I just wanted to be sure we'd be able to ship together if we do.

Really? Did that change? My husband moved me out here when he was an E3.

No it has always been like that. It is really up to the Command on whether or not they accept the Sailor or send him back to his prior command.

My command actually sends them back. The Navy is the only one who has this policy due to the high cost of living and higher chances of divorce.
