    Shocked Sex Offenders

    Advertisements
I've been looking at off base housing near Eglin AFB since we will be moving there soon. I found alot of places that looked nice (from the internet anyway), and my sister suggested that I go on familywatchdog.com to see if there were any registered sex offenders in the area. There were more than I can count! So I searched some other areas around the base and found pretty much the same thing! Would you feel safe moving to an area where there were so many around, especially if you have a 4 year old?

i wouldn't feel less safe since there are more sex offenders who are not registered or not even caught yet. and keep in mind that ALOT of those sex offenders were prosecuted for statuatory rape at a young age too. Not an excuse for them, but that alot aren't really a danger to your child. Most sexual assaults are by someone in your family or friends circle. Thats who I would keep my eye out on.

I am registered on that exact site so I get alerts if anyone moves into my area.....& if it's just Stat Rape (not trying to down play it) you can figure that out by the crime desricption & age of minor. For checking on it...most people don't & find out afterwards. I totally understand I wouldn't feel one bit comfortable moving into that area I have noticed how ever there are usually a few any where you move, but they have to also be certain distances from schools if it's a sex crime against a minor too.

Just about anywhere you look there will be a lot of offenders.

Sex offenders have to live somewhere too. Sucks, but what are you going to do.

    .......
before you judge the sex offender, you need to look and see what he was in trouble for. My ex was a sex offenfer, for immoral communications with a minor- he was 18, she wasnt. Same with my uncle.

Pay attention to what your reading. They arent ALL after children. And they didnt ALL do something wrong.

I agree that it wouldn't be as big of a deal if it was for statatory rape. However, 3/4 of them were for committing a sexual offense against a child and rape....That worries me...There were at least 60 in a 5 mile radius. It's such a nice neighborhood too.

When I was with my ex finacee, I was living in a safe and sober house....

There was 45 sex offenders in a 1 block radius.
I'll admit-- It can get scarey.... just....
all I wanted to say was that I didnt want them all judged in a group...

Its the ones that aren't regestered that I would worry about more.
I find that the registries give an inaccurate and incomplete picture of the people. And yes, they are people.
I also find them dangerous because of the false sense of security and insecurity.
I was neighbors with some, and I rented an apartment to a sex offender.
I don't have kids, so I see things differently.

Like guynavywife said, it's the unregistered or predatory sex offenders that you need to look out for.

ETA: Here's a link to the Okaloosa Sheriff's Department registry.
