    When I PCS...

    Advertisements
Do I have to get a new driver's license in the new state if we're actually moving there?? Or can I keep my current DL until it expires??

I feel like this could be a stupid question, but I was told Dakota could keep his current DL until he wasn't on AD anymore. But no one knows what I have to do.

From my understanding, yes you'd have to get a new one... We don't get the same privledges as our DH's as of now... they are trying to fix it in Congress, but as of now you normally would need to get a new one.

Some states will allow military spouses to keep whichever license they have like the military members do.

But many do only give you 30-90 days to get a new license for that state. As far as I know it would just be taking the book test (since some states have different road rules) to make sure you are current on your knowledge and on that states laws.

I don't think you have to take a test, just reapply and turn in your old license. At least that is what I had to do when I moved TN to VA. Although I did have to give up my license with my super cute picture on it. :cry
Maybe my CA license will have a decent picture.

Your supposed to get a new one, however my FL one expired this year and I kept it but added my WA address because if I had gotten a WA one it would have been too late for me to register to vote again. Here you just pay, take the eye exam and turn in your old license.

I never knew you were supposed to until I read that on here in the past year. When I moved from FL to SC I kept my FL license and it was never a problem I renewed it in the mail and still use that one now.
