    Question Relocate after getting out?

    Advertisements
So if DH decides not to re-enlist, will the army move us back to the states or will we be left in Alaska to move on our own or stay here?

I dont mind staying here because my family is here, but DH hasnt decided if he likes it here or not, nor has he finally decided whether to re-enlist or not, so Im looking at pros and cons of both.

As far as I know the military will move you back to his home of record. Any place other than that is your dime.

I know a guy who's stationed in Korea and now re-enlisting and I asked DH if he had to get himself back. DH said the Army will move him back to his HOR.

They will move you to either your HOR or a distance equal to the HOR. If you go farther than that, you'll pay the difference out of pocket.

FYI- your home of record can not be changed. your home of record is the place your DH signed up for the military.

HOR can not be changed- HOR is the place you enlisted.

they ALL 5 branches will pay to get your stuff from last PDS to either HOR or designated place at or less than the distance to HOR-

Yup. So if you want to go further than HOR, you pay the difference.

I think (but don't quote me on it) that when DH took his TAPS class someone mentioned that if you have been in for 12 years or more you can change it. But he took that class back in 2006 so I'm not 100% sure on that. Also some people in DH's taps class thought that because they had done a HOR move that their HOR had changed but that is NOT the case.
