    we're going from San Diego to Portsmouth, NH.

    What exactly do you get benefit wise when moving?

    Do they ship a car? We have 2 cars.

    Do we get any allowances when moving?

    Thanks!

    Do we get any allowances when moving? You will get DLA (which you can ask for in advance to help off set travel cost), per diem for your husband, you and children (this helps with food costs, hotel etc..)

    Thanks!

    Ok I think I found some info out online about the POV w/in the CONUS.

    POV Shipment within the Continental United States

    Members may be authorized to have their vehicles shipped in the continental United States if they are assigned to a ship that is changing home ports, have insufficient travel time to drive from the old to the new duty station (documented in writing by their commanding officer), or have a medical condition that is certified in writing by a doctor. A dependent of a deceased member may be authorized to have a vehicle shipped as well. Members believing they meet any of these conditions should check with a counselor. Otherwise, members should plan on moving their own vehicles within the continental United States.

    Here's the site i found it from.. http://www.lakehurst.navy.mil/nlweb/...hippingpov.htm

    for Homeports change they will either piggy back the cars or they will ship it.

    other wise you will be entitled to TLE, Malt , per diem and DLA.

    Do you know if they will only do 1 car? Would we have to pay for the other car to be shipped?

    If so, do you think we'd still get the per diem & TLE if we ship one car through them and drive the other car?

    Wouldn't we still get DLA?

    Thanks!!!

    no they will not ship a second car and there is no reimbursement for it under this condition- you will have to drive or pay out of pocket.

    you will get TLE regardless if you ship one or two cars- TLE is a PCS entitlement.

    you will get per diem for each day of authorised travel whem you drive, and is based on 350 miles per day ( 700 miles = 2 days travel)
    Malt is 27 cents a mile for authorised miles
    you will be entitled to DLA- DLA has nothing to do with whether you ship one or 2 it is a PCS allowance to help cover the costs of moving INTO a new place- but can be used for anything you want, you never have to show where you spent it.

    I got some info today by the Captain.. i'll share it just incase someone else is in the same situation.

    He said that they will ship one car.. and then we can drive the other car and get the TLE & per diem!

    We are thinking about driving our other car because if we ship it than we will be paying at least $1000 to ship. If we drive it.. the military pays

    yes- sorta; since you will be paying for the second car out of pocket- how they will pay is by reimbursement;
    they will figure the per diem for the 3 of you based on the authorised travel days.
    they will figure the mileage at 27 cents a mile and that is what you will be entitled to;

    any costs over that will be out of pocket and they will not pay for luggage fees, pet fees, upgrades, canceled flight fees or lodging in association with canceled flights since he is not "ordered" to fly.

    editing in too add: it is about 3,000 miles from San diego to NH, 3,000 divided by 350 = 8 days
    109 x 8 = 872
    81.25 x 8 = 654
    54.50 x 8 = 436
    total combined per diem: 1962

    mileage 3,000 x .27=810

    total combined per diem and malt: 2772.00

    so yes they will reimburse, but they will only pay for the dollar amount of the reciepts- even if you found tix for 1/2 that price.
