moving
since Im new at all this I have no idea what to expect. We've been told that the Navy will pay a moving company to move up to 5000 lbs of our stuff. We were also told they will pay to move one car. Ok heres my questions: my grandma was an army wife for like 20 years so maybe its different but she says that our car has to pass an inspection to get a pass of some type to be on the base. Is there still an inspection? Will The Navy pay to have our car moved with us? If they do pay to move the car do they also pay for airfare?if there is an inspection what do they look for? My husband is a newly enlisted E1 can we really have 5000 lbs of stuff? We have two kids. What happens between the time the movers take our stuff and it arrives at our new place? I read some where that there are hospitatlity kits we can check out for two weeks while we wait for our stuff. What is that? Do Navy families move as often as Army families? My grandparents moved all over the world, a new place at least every year often times sooner. I feel like Im blind I have no idea what to expect. The recruiter told us so much that we've already found out isn't true. We've had to spend almost $800 in issued stuff and uniforms which the recruiter said is a cost that the Navy would cover. Well he said we'd be responsible for no more than $200 of everything issued and the uniforms. He lied so much about everything how can he sleep at night?

The navy will only move your car if you are moving oconus or overseas whether it be to Hawaii or out of the country. We moved from SC to CA and they wouldnt even move a car for us....so plan on driving there. Im not sure about inspection, but I know you have to be current on insurance, registration, and in California pass a smog test to get stickers. There is hospitality kits and you would go through the Navy & Marine Corps relief center or whatever it is called. They have microwaves, furniture, silverware, etc... to help you out. Hopefully someone else will have the answers to the other questions. Best of luck to you, moving is horrible!

oh my gosh thats really sucks! I guess I'll have to leave my car here and pray someone can sell it for us. I would never trust it to drive me that far. I live in washington state and will be moving to Great Lakes, Il and its winter time. We have a camaro ( not by choice ). Im so glad you told me that. As for our insurance we carry limited liability. we could step it up if we have to. and our car didn't pass the smog test but we live in an area that doesn't require it for tags.

You have to pay up front for the hotel & gas unfortunately, but they do reimburse you....we have a camaro as well! fun as far as insurance costs go
You shouldnt have to step up the insurance, Bill only had liability on his old camero. Now he got a new one and wants to protect his baby!! haha

We actually made money from doing a partial dity move when I moved from Arizona to South Carolina, which would be moving some of your stuff in your car. You weigh the car empty, and weigh it full, and they will pay you for your luggage and the weight of everything you are moving.

Yes they pay you perdiem and DLA for your dh at 100% you at 75% and your kids if under 12 are 50% over 13 is 75& too.
You will probably make out on the move if you stay at a days inn or the like instead of Hilton etc... Your furniture will go in storage if it beats you to IL. You can do the hospitality kits we never felt the need. Like Rach said partial Ditys are great!!! Especially if you are over your weight and for a large family 500lbs doesn't go far |
