    Jap vax

For people who got stationed to Japan recently, did you get them? How was it?

And for the non-vaxing people, if you were required to take a certain vax, would you get it? How do you think you can get out of getting it?

The person my husband is replacing told him that he (as well as his family) should be getting the Jap vax which is a series of 3 shots before going there. She told him to get it done as soon as he gets his orders.

Ah, she's talking about the Japanese encephalitis vaccine. I got it before I traveled there because I was in a lot of rural Japan so I was at risk of Japanese Encephalitis.

However the vaccine is not on the list of required vaccines before traveling to Japan, even when you live there. I had to go through 2 months of calling office after office to get the authorization to get it. The vaccine is about $600 a person and requires specialized training and storage to give.

I just wanted to emphasize that the vaccine is only required if you will be spending extended periods of time in rural areas.

I'm in Guam, and I had to get the Japanese Encephalitis vax, Hep A, Hep B (I believe) and I think that was it. Dh had a horrible rxn to the JEV. No one else that I have talked to here had to have it, but it seems like everyone had to have different ones.
DD didn't get any shots to come here because she was under a year old. When she had her 12 month checkup she had the Hep A because apparently it is really bad here.

Thanks everyone! Maybe she said to get it because Atsugi is considered a rural area. I don't know, I'm trying to figure out how much time I have to get it because she said it was a series of 3 shots. I wonder if they'll sign off the medical clearance even if I'm not done with the series.
