we'll be doing the same thing next year.......

I believe USAA has a realtor advantage program if you are looking into buying.

When we moved to FL. we moved into housing til we could find a plce we wanted to rent. Plus, it worked out really well since he left for deployment soon after we got there.

When we moved here we looked on the internet and, I would personally, stay as far away from going based just off the internet. We were sent pictures of the house and it looked really nice. Ya, well, we got there and the pictures must have been from years, many years, before cause it didn't look a thing like that.

When we were here but looking to move out of the house we found on the internet we used a real estate agent.

We are now looking to buy a house at our next duty station so we have been looking at houses on different realty companies websites and then having some good friends of our's go over and look at it for us.

We bought a house back home when we were in FL. and we did it the way we are doing now (looked on websites and then had our families go look at it). It worked out well for us.

So, ya, we've tried many things. If I was you I would have someone you know look at a place you find or have a realtor help you. Even if you're not buying you can still have a realtor help you. They have access to many more houses than you could by yourself.

    Good Luck hun.

Oh, also, real estate companies (many I have looked at in VA.) sometimes have specialists to work with people in the military. I forget exactly what their title is but if you go to a real estate company's website it should be on there if they have one or more.

If you're looking to rent here at Fort Gordon, there are several decent apartment complexes, but you could probably get a SFH for the same price. If you're looking to buy, I could recommend a fantastic realtor.

As for house hunting from afar....we usually do a lot of preliminary work and then fly to th destination to house hunt in advance. I don't know if that's an option for you.
