I just found out today that DH is being stationed @ Ft. Drum, NY. His report date is 8-26. He's still in AIT right now. So how do we go about getting everything set up for the move. We were wanting to move ourselves, but can't afford it. We've got 3 kids and 2 dogs. And 2 vehicles. I keep reading about these advances that you can get, but I don't understand what all this means or how to get it. He's not getting much help on his end either. Please help!!

My husband is at Ft. Drum as well! But we are so totally confused as to everything as well. I thought we had to move ourselves since we got married after he has been stationed there for a while but he just found out maybe we can get help. Good luck to you.

If you have a POA I would see finance and transportation yourself. Ask them about what your entitled to, that should get the ball rolling.

I am going through this with my hubby now. Most important, do you have a POA? If you do you need to go to the transportation office at the base closest to you and to the finance office at the base closest to you. For the army you need to have a POA that specifically says you are allowed to arrange a move and deal with his pay. If you do not have these things he needs to go to transportation and finance at the base he is at. He should be able to ask his cadre and get answers from them as well. If you have any other questions you can always PM me!

No, I don't have POA. But he is coming home in 6 days for HRAC. Will we be able to take care of it then?

Is there a base near you? If so then yes.

Why are you considering moving yourself? If you have kids and animals to worry about it would be easier to let someone else do the packing and unpacking, you just have to worry about your cars and kids.... And yes you can get travel advances for that. The military pays to move one car I beleive.
