Moving to our home state as a veteran (HELP!)

    Advertisements
My husband is officially done with the Navy on Oct. 27th and we're planning on moving from San Diego to Dallas. I'm here finishing my degree, and our stuff is in storage in San Diego.

Does anyone have any tips? Has anyone done this before?

My DH has done TAP and I know the Navy will pay for the move... but I don't know quite what to expect. I'm nervous that we will end up not having enough to move back.

    Any advice/support is greatly appreciated!

He will be funded to move any where in the US. You can have a goverment move or do a DITY. You will make more with a dity but you have to do all the work. I haven't heard of anyone not making it where they want to go.

THe military will only move him to his "home of record" for his final move. As for Texas there are no state taxes and you also qualify for the "homestead exemption" if you bu a house. That means a better tax bracket for your personal property taxes.

actually now they will only move you to where you enlisted. If you chose to move further away you have to pay up front to the moving company the additional monies if you move is less then it will be fully funded.

    I will miss you SOS...
Please be wary of what you post remember OPSEC is not just another acronym.

I don't know how the navy works, but the Marines paid us so much per mile per vehicle. We did a DITY move and had money left over at the end of it.

DITY do it yourself. although i don't think they call it that anymore. I can't remember the new acronym they use, but basically you move all your stuff.

Actually they will move you whereever you want to go- whether it is back to the HOR or anywhere else--

the catch- is if you move farther than the HOR then you will foot the bill for the difference-

example: you are in san diego and HOR is Dallas but you want to go to pensa cola FL- you will pay the difference between Dallas and Pensa cola-

I know this is possible- 1st my DS did this this yr- moved from WA ( HIS HOR was IL) and he moved to MI- his bill was 600 dollars that they billed him for ( he moved in jan and he just got the bill this week )
and secondly it is in the JFTR

As for the moving money you will get everything that you would normally get for PCS except DLA and TLE- everything else is the same.

and just to clarify your home of record is where you enlisted into the military.
Just a little tip, you'll save money if you do a DITY- if your move is further than your HOR
