i dont think so. i think the only difference is one you get before (advance) and the other you get after (reimbursed). I could be wrong though. But that is how I always understood it.
Yes, but the difference is in the obvious. A travel advance is an advance on the travel pay you are expecting. You are typically only given an advance on a percent (80% I believe) of what the total travel pay is expected to be.
Are you asking about travel pay ie traveling to your destination by car, or dislocation allowance?Dh refuses to take a travel advance because he has heard too many horror stories. I am guessing the travel pay is just something they give for a PCS?
Thanks!
There's a difference.
you should go ahead and get the advance travel payment:
you need to specify this way:
you want 80% of the per diem and Malt based on authorised travel days and mileage.
you want 100% of the DLA: at least 1800 dollars
now a few things that get peeps in trouble:
1) you cannot double dip allowances: if you are authorised 7 days travel and only take 5 days and then check into a hotel for TLE you will lose or have to pay back the 2 days of per diem.
2) do not stay at 5 star hotels: remember the perdiem is to cover food, lodging and incedentals enroute to the new PDS. if you over spend it comes out of you pocket..
3) do not eat 3 meals aday in fancy hotels-- same reason above.
4) do a partial dity this is a reimbursement of weight at about 65 cents per lb. and will come in handy at the end.
5) save all gas, tolls and oil change reciepts since they will help when doing the reimbursement for the partial dity.
we have always made money on a PCS...
just do it with knowledge and you will be ok.
DLA is "free" moving money. There is a link in this forum up at the top that has DLA rates on it.
