    housing question...san diego

    Advertisements
ok my df is on deployment right now, but we will be getting married late may/early june when he gets back. we're from texas so when he gets back to san diego (PDS), he's flying home and we are getting married. i plan to move to sd as soon as possible.

my question is...how long does it take to get all the housing arrangements set up? i wanted to just go back to sd with him when he goes back...or does finding housing take too long to do that? if it didnt take long, i was just planning on us either staying with friends or staying at the navy lodge until everything gets set up. he is just taking leave for a few days, then going back.

another question...is it more likely that we will be staying on or off base? and if off base, does the bah really cover a lot of your expenses?

and another...girls living in sd: how do you like it?

your help would be greatly apprieciated.

There are housing units available immediately usually, but it all boils down to where you want to live. NTC, Serra Mesa, and Murphy Canyon are the most popular. We're in Lofgren Terrace currently... As soon as you're married and he puts you on his dependents list (page 2 aka DEERS) you'll be able to get on the housing list.

Compared to TX, you'll find that things here are 2-3 times more expensive.. that includes rent and groceries. I like that there are so many things to do here, and the climate (once you get used to it) is nice most of the time.

Well, I'm what I am and I'm what I'm not
and I'm sure happy with what Iíve got
I live to love and laugh alot
    and thatís all I need

I'd say since its just the two of you, you shouldn't have to much trouble getting something right away.

There are lot of apartments around San Diego. I am sure you will be able to find something to suit your needs. I persoanlly woulnd't live in housing with it just being the two of you. You can defintely find something cheaper out in town. We had no problems getting an apartment when we first got out here.
