    OCONUS moves

What did you ship in the first shipment? or maybe it would be easier to list the things you didn't ship the first shipment.

Does everything big have to go the first time?

We have a riding lawn mower that I will need to use all summer and we are going to try to have our first shipment packed & taken in mid June...also I don't want to have my washer & dryer go then. I will still be here for about 3.5 months, that would be alot of trips to the laundry mat.

    Any advice is much needed.

Where are you moving to? More than likely you won't be taking your lawn mower or washer/dryer if it is anywhere in Europe. You should have one big shipment and one express shipment, and possibly one set of storage items.

    we are going to Hawaii

I know there are 2 shipments I'm just wanting to know what people shipped for the big shipment vs. the express shipment.

This isn't our first Navy move but it is our first OCONUS move. We are going to try to do the first big shipment in June before the husband leaves for school but that still leaves me & the kids here in this house. It will be summer for the most part but our kids will have to start school here in the fall since we will not actually be reporting to HI till Oct. so they will be in school for about a month before the actual move. And like I said above I don't wanna ship the riding lawn mower or washer/dryer till the express shipment if possible. The husband is suppose to be getting me a list or some kind of guidelines about the shipments but I don't know when he'll actually get it.

You can't ship large items in the express because they go on a plane. I think you have a 300 or 500 lb weight limit for that too-basically pots, pans, bedding, bath stuff, clothes, and light electronics(we ship our router, etc in that one).

the express is 1,000 lbs or less depending of rank-

you cannot send ANY kind of furniture- not even cribs- and it has to fit in a box-

when we went to Kodiak- we sent:

a few pots and pans ( the ones I use most)
    a 15 in TV
    playstation2
3 folding lawn chairs ( yes they fit in a wardrobe box)
    Dh's uniforms
cold weather clothing ( we lived IN miami and went to AK)
    a shower curtian and rings
    towels
2 airbeds one queen and one twin for dd
    sheets
    blankets
    a bathroom rug
cooking utinsels ( a can opener)
    a measuring cup ( liquid)
    dry measuring cups
    measuring spoons
    shoes ( I sent 8 Pair!!)
    clothes for DD and DH
the cat bed and some toys ( new so they would have something to play with in the new house ( I know they are spoiled)
A few coffee mugs and a coffee pot

after I got ther I bought new storage containers and we used plastic for 2 weeks.

hint about the express--- ship it at least 2 months before you leave- if you ship it too close you run the risk of getting there before IT does-

the 'express" will take 2-6 weeks to get to the Overseas location-

we shipped ours JUly 1st and arrived in Kodiak Aug 9th- we got our shipment delivered the next day while still in the hotel.
