    Advertisements
Were are ready to move to our first duty station on February 13th Zach finally graduates from AIT I was just wondering if we were eligiable for DLA we are struggling right now and I no we wont have the money to move, get an apartment, pay for the security deposist and everything else that goes along with this. Does Anyone no how this works and when we would recieve the money and if we have to fill out paperwork for this? Thanks for all your help

As far as I know all military moves are the same and yes you will receive advanced DLA. It will be dependent on your rank of how much you receive. Also, you will be eligible to be reimbursed for all monies spent afterwards. Also, if you are in need of extra money there is a advance pay option that you can do. This will basically act like a no interest 12 month loan. I really hope this can help you out. I am Navy, so I am not 100% sure if the army is exactly the same.

Sorry but no you are not eligible for DLA for your first move.

From the DoD travel and per diem website:

Q6: Am I entitled to DLA when moving from my home of record to my first duty station?

A6: By law there is no DLA allowance when the PCS is from your home (or the place from which you entered active duty) to your first permanent duty station (PDS) unless your dependents actually move in connection with the PCS.

    Sorry.

sorry but that is incorrect, they are entitled to DLA because he is moving their family. the bolded part states that yes you are entitled if your dependents move in connection with the PCS. She his dependent is moving in connection so yes you are entitled to it.

He should also talk to PSD or whatever army calls it, to find out all his entitlements. If you get advance pay, you have to pay it back over the next year, so if you can spare the 100-200 a month that will come out then you can also get advanced pay.

you should get an advance travel with the DLA before you move, At minimum DLA should be before you move. Make sure he files the correct paperwork. then save your receipts so you can get the rest of your travel when you get to your final destination.
