so after this year DH will get his orders for his first long term duty station...and i'm sooo up in the air about where i wanna go....i wouldn't mind going to CA...casue i have a 2 friends that direction...one's in TX and the other is in CA san diego....so i wouldn't be completely alone....but then we could be in VA which is where we both grew up and have family and more friends there....but i'm not sure if i want to go back there right away...don't get me wrong i love my family and friends but once you go back it's like your sucked back in to your old life and what people remember you as....i wouldn't mind going back..but then again i kinda wanna be other places i've only been to MD and CA(but CA only when i was 2)....i don't know where i really wanna go and neither does DH...

Everyday you spend worrying about tomorrow...you miss living for today...

well this is what we have done in the past made a check list with pros and cons of all our options before talking to the detailer. if he is school he might not have much of if any say in them at all. my DH filled out his dream sheet for 3 east coast bases and ended up in Bremerton WA. but it wasn't overseas which is where most of his class went so we were happy with that. i am a huge checklist person

We have been on both coasts and are back in California. I prefer west coast myself, however when Rod retires we will likely end up in either Texas or Pax River, MD where he has job offers.
One thing to also keep in mind is that the detailers hate to do coast to coast moves, especially if you have more than 3 dependents. They will do it if you can get hooked up, but the only way we got back west coast was by taking Lemoore orders. It could end up getting even more difficult if money is tighter for moves. So be prepared to possibly stay on whatever coast you chose.

i guess another thing to consider is what will happen if he goes on a ship and goes on cruise? will you move to be with your family or stay put?

We've been to both coasts, and we were so thrilled to get back to the east coast . Dh and I prefer the east coast so much more.

California is great! There's so much to do!!!
But I'm totally loving the East Coast. I'd choose California in a heartbeat since it would be something new for you!
